Sudan: Prices of goods rise in Abu Zabad area

Abu Zabad Locality in Sudan’s West Kordofan State is experiencing rising prices of consumer goods and medicines. Locals have been unable to give a clear explanation about why it is happening.

Traders have noted that consumer goods especially sorghum, millet and dry okra have dramatically risen in price at the market.

“A small bushel of millet rose from 17 SDG to 20 SDG, a small bushel of sorghum reached 12 SDG and flour costs 10 SDG, and a sack of dry okra reached from 2800 SSP whereas a small bushel of dry okra is for 100 SDG ,” a local resident explained.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj yesterday, several local residents in the area complained about the high living standard including medical costs, which resulted into reluctance of citizens to go to clinics for treatment.

"You know, there is nothing cheap now at the market here in Abu Zabad. I swear by God, the citizens are suffering badly due to a difficult living condition, even the medicines are very expensive in the area, I met very many people who went to the doctor, but couldn’t  afford to buy the medicines,” explained one local resident.
