A Khartoum criminal court sentenced a police officer to death for killing Awadiya Ajabna on the outskirts of Sudan’s capital in 2012.
The judge sentenced the offender on charges of premeditated murder under article 130 of the Sudanese penal code.
A member of the victim’s advocacy team Hanan John told Radio Tamazuj Wednesday that there was extensive deployment of forces at the court premises, likening the scene as “battlefield.”
She further said the court issued a fine of 2,000 SDG and two months prison term against seven other people from the community police who were in a patrol unit during the incident, which took place in the Dem residential area.
Hanan pointed out that the court has already considered the period spent by the suspects in custody. Speaking of the possibility of an appeal, the activist emphasized that they will never feel happy unless the court’s ruling is carried out.
