Sudan’s National Consensus Forces (NCF) on Thursday said that it plans to set up a legal committee to advocate for the release of detained opposition figures.
The SCF is a coalition of political parties in Sudan opposed to the rule of the National Congress Party, and was initially formed to stand against the ruling party in the 2010 Sudanese elections.
Wajdi Saleh, member of the opposition alliance, told Radio Tamazuj on Thursday that they decided to form a legal committee to secure the release of the detained political opposition leaders.
He pointed out that some regional and international rights groups are putting pressure on the government to release the political detainees. He called on citizens to united their ranks and protest against the government’s new economic policies.
Last Wednesday, Sudanese security officers arrested four opposition figures from the opposition alliance over protests against the government decision to lift subsides on essential commodities.
