Sudan opposition alliance suspends membership of five parties

Sudan’s National Consensus Force (NCF), a coalition of opposition political parties, suspended the membership of five parties after differences over their participation in peace meetings brokered by the African Union.

In a Wednesday statement, the opposition alliance announced the suspension of the membership of the Sudanese Congress Party, Center Gathering Party, Sudanese Arab Socialist Baath Party, Sudanese National Alliance and Sudanese National Party.

The alliance pointed out that the suspended groups have been participating in meetings of the Sudan Appeal force since February and that they made some resolutions that are inconsistent with the alliance’s policy.

For its part, the Sudanese Congress Party issued a statement denouncing the move, saying the decision violates the group’s convention.
