Sudan official denies chemical waste in Khartoum

Claims that there are shipping containers with chemical waste in Khartoum are inaccurate, a top Sudanese government official said.

Last year, several media houses quoted a top government official saying that there are 60 shipping containers with chemical waste in Khartoum that are difficult to dispose of.

Dr. al Tijani al Assam, director general of higher council of environment in Khartoum state in said there is no chemical waste that can harm the environment, specifically in containers brought from the Marawi dam.

For her part, Zahwa al Sadig Ahmed, chairperson of health committee in Khartoum state legislative assembly called on the government to ensure that the waste isn’t harmful to the environment and the people. She questioned the way the containers entered into Khartoum, stressing that the state legislative will not accept it to be disposed in the area.
