Sudan national team arrives Juba ahead of game with South Sudan

The Sudan national football team on Saturday evening arrived in Juba to face the South Sudan national team, the Bright Stars, next Tuesday in a qualifier match for the World Cup 2026.

The Sudan national football team on Saturday evening arrived in Juba to face the South Sudan national team, the Bright Stars, next Tuesday in a qualifier match for the World Cup 2026.

The Sudanese community in Juba, headed by the Sudanese Ambassador Jamal Malik, the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Government of South Sudan, received the delegation at Juba International Airport.

In brief press statements at the airport, Ambassador Jamal Malik expressed happiness for the safe arrival of the team.

“I am very happy with this reception by the Sudanese community because it was not only the Sudanese community that received the Sudanese team, but South Sudanese also,” he said. “The reception was full in the presence of the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of South Sudan and the President of the South Sudan Football Association.”

Amb. Malik thanked the South Sudan Football Association ensuring proper arrangements for the Sudanese national team delegation.

“The match is going to be a friendly match among brothers and whoever wins we will congratulate the other and whoever loses, we wish him all the best ahead,” The envoy added.

He congratulated the Sudanese football team after its victory over Mauritania.

Meanwhile, Hossam El-Din Osman, the head of the Sudanese community in Juba, said he expected the match to be a win-win for both teams.

“I hope for a good match between the two teams.” He stated.

A cross-section of the Sudanese community in Juba sounded out by this publication before the arrival of the Sudanese team said they were happily looking forward to the game and hoped either team would win.

Abbas Jarjara, a South Sudanese citizen, said the match will be historic. 

“We welcome the Sudanese national team to South Sudan,” he said.
