Sudan’s deputy ambassador to South Sudan Esam Idris Ibrahim has said his government will address the rising demand for a consulate in the town of Wau in South Sudan.

The Sudanese diplomat said this during his visit to Wau where he met Governor Angelo Taban Biajo on Saturday.

In a press statement on Saturday, Esam said an office in South Sudan’s second largest city would be crucial due to the high number of Sudanese nationals residing there.

“We came to see the possibility of opening a consulate. If we find that there is a large number of Sudanese nationals here, it will be possible for Sudan to have a presence here,” he said.

Esam further said he visited the town of Wau to hold meetings with Sudanese nationals. He congratulated the people of South Sudan on the occasion of the nationwide celebration for peace.

For his part, the governor of Wau state, Angelo Taban Biajo said Sudanese and South Sudanese leaders are working to ensure that the revitalized peace agreement is fully implemented.

“Wau state will be at the forefront of the states that will start implementing the signed peace agreement,” he said.

The top state official reiterated his government’s keenness to enhance relations with neighbouring Sudan.
