Native administration leaders of the Rizeigat and Misseriya tribes are trying to demobilize tribal fighters and ease tensions between the two communities, after fears of clashes along the border between Western Kordofan and East Darfur.

Sharif Suleiman Ismail, a native administration leader from Misseriya in Meiram of West Kordofan told Radio Tamazuj that they were able to calm the situation on the side of Misseriya.

He noted that there will be no new clashes with the Rizeigat unless in the case of self-defense.

Ismail stressed that there were serious efforts among the Misseriya Fayareen clan to defuse the crisis, and demanded that there be similar preparations among the Rizeigat.

“We urged our people not fight but the other group are assembling themselves and maybe today or tomorrow fighting will erupt again.”

However, the Rizeigat paramount chief Mohamed Issa Aliu told Radio Tamazuj that his community is exerting the same efforts in order to diffuse their dispute with the Misseriya. He pointed to a visit by Rizeigat native administration to the secene of events to calm the situation and disperse crowds at the border.
