Citizens in Abu Karinka area in Sudan’s East Darfur State have reportedly started to rebuild houses that were destroyed in the recent attack by the Rizeigat tribe on the area.

Ma’alia tribe spokesman Yusuf Hamid told Radio Tamazuj that calm has returned to the area and that the citizens have initiated a nafir (communal work) to rebuild their houses that were destroyed and burned down during the attack on the area.

He denied the existence of any initiative to mediate between the two feuding tribes. Yusuf added the government promised to solve the problem, but without any tangible result up till now.

The tribal leader pointed out that the Humanitarian Aid Commission had promised to provide assistance to the conflict-affected people, but it didn’t show up till now. He blamed the recent killings in Abu Karinka on the government. He called on the government to pursue what he termed as “criminals” so that they are brought to book.

Yusuf said that the Ma’alia tribe may resort to the International Criminal Court (ICC) if the government doesn’t want to implement justice.
