A top Ma’alia tribal leader in Sudan’s East Darfur State has welcomed security forces deployed to control the security situation and create a buffer zone between them and the Rizeigat tribe after recent violence in the Abu Karinka area.

The federal government in Khartoum recently announced that it dispatched a military force of 1,800 troops to East Darfur in order to address tensions between the two tribes.

Yusuf Ali Hamid, spokesman of the Ma’alia tribe, also commended a statement made by the newly appointed governor Anes Mansur, in which the governor disclosed that the coming cabinet will mostly include appointees from other states. Yusuf pointed out that this step will defuse the tribal tension in the state.

However, he told Radio Tamazuj that the forces deployed along the Abu Karinka – Ad Daein borders are not enough to control tribal tensions between the two tribes.
