The incident took place in Dokan village in Kurmuk Locality while the lorry was traveling toward a market within the area. Casualties include many women and children, some of whom sustained serious injuries that require amputation.

Dr. Mohamed Ali, director of Damazin Hospital, said in a press statement on Friday that six out of the 19 are suffering from serious fractures that need complicated operations.

“The wounded are mostly women and children,” he said. “Initially the rest had already received treatment in the hospital in Doka area and their condition is relatively stable.”
