The six jailed supporters of the opposition Sudanese Congress Party who have been on a hunger strike since last Thursday were taken to the hospital three days ago, their colleagues said.

The health of the five university students and journalist Hassan Ishag, who have been detained in En Nahud, West Kordofan since 11 and 12 June, is deteriorating, said the Independent Students’ Conference (ISC) in a press release.

The ISC demanded their immediate release of their colleagues or the commencement of trials before a competent court.

The student group said the detainees have been tortured and were arrested without charges under emergency law.

The five students are Marwan Ishag Arja and Fathi Mohamed, both studying at the University of Khartoum, Mohamed Abdin and Nasreldin Mohamed Hussein, students of the University of Sudan, and Abdel Rahim Osman, student at the University of West Kordofan.

Two of the students were detained when they were on their way to deliver a speech inside the University of West Kordofan condemning the arrest of Sudanese Congress Party leader head Ibrahim El Sheikh, according to Al Jerida newspaper.

El Sheikh has been in custody since June 8 without trial.
