Sudan: Islamist group leader Al Jozouli Al Amin arrested

Secretary-General of the Sudanese Tayar Al Umma Islamist group Mohamed Al Jozouli Al Amin has reportedly been arrested by security agents on Tuesday morning.

Secretary-General of the Sudanese Tayar Al Umma Islamist group Mohamed Al Jozouli Al Amin has reportedly been arrested by security agents on Tuesday morning.

The group is accused of supporting the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (also known as IS or ISIS). Al Jozouli’s arrest came just days of his release from a previous detention, according to a statement released by the group on social media without giving further details.

The Islamist leader’s arrest also coincided with departure of a number of Sudanese students to join ISIS in Iraq and Syria.

Confiscation of newspapers

Security agents recently confiscated print-runs of a number of newspapers without any clear reasons. The security agents confiscated a print-run of Al Siyasi newspaper owned by journalist Mustafa Abul Azaim.

The newspaper’s managing editor said they had published a story about the Sudanese students who joined ISIS in Iraq and Syria.

He pointed out that the security also confiscated Al Tayar and Al Jereeda newspapers on Monday for publishing a statement by spokesman of the Sudanese Foreign Ministry Ali Al Sadiq who accused unnamed bodies of recruiting Sudanese students into ISIS.

12 students reportedly left Sudan and joined the terrorist group, which is fighting in Syria and Iraq.
