Sudan inaugurates two hydropower projects

Sudan government on Thursday announced the official opening of a 320-megawatt hydroelectric power plant at the Upper Atbara and Setit Dam in eastern Sudan.

Sudan government on Thursday announced the official opening of a 320-megawatt hydroelectric power plant at the Upper Atbara and Setit Dam in eastern Sudan.

The beginning operation of unit 1, the first of four 80-MW turbines, marked the inauguration of the project in the presence of President Omar Al Bashir and several government officials.

For her part,Tabitha Botrous, State Minister of Energy said.” We have openned one turbine that produces 80 MW, and the project is designed to produce 320 MW”.

The Sudanese official further said the two dams will generate electricity and supply water.
