Sudan hosts influx of Syrian and Yemeni refugees

Sudan is hosting significant number of Syrian and Yemeni refugees, OCHA said today in a press release.

“According to Government of Sudan estimates, about 100,000 Syrians have arrived in Sudan, predominantly in the greater Khartoum area,” OCHA said. Additionally, there have been 1,334 registered refugees in Yemen.

Syria’s civil war began in the spring of 2011, and has seen the rise of the so-called Islamic State. According to World Vision, 12 million Syrians have fled their homes.

More than 10,000 people have been killed or wounded in Yemen’s civil war, which is between a Saudi-led coalition that support Yemen’s president, and Houthi aligned rebels supported by Iran.

Visas are not required for Yemeni refugees in Sudan, and have access to UNHCR services.
