The Gulfan Nuba and the Dar El Naila Arab tribes in Dilling and Habila localities in Sudan’s South Kordofan state signed a truce on Sunday, after pressure from local authorities.

A dispute over a grazing site resulted into deadly clashes between the Nuba and the Arab nomadic tribes killing dozens in Habila locality on Friday.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj yesterday several residents from Habila locality said violence prompted the police and the other organized forces to create a buffer zone between the two tribes to de-escalate the situation.

“The buffer zone was the gravel road at Osban area south of Habila – so the police have been monitoring this area,” a local resident explained.

He said on the day following the signing of the truce a group of heavily armed Dar El Naila tribesmen driving 45 motorcycles were seen trying to cross the buffer zone, but the police warned them against the move and turned them back.

Security authorities in Dilling and Habila localities as well as the SAF commander in the area urged the warring tribes to stop the bloodshed and sign a document.

However, the Nuba tribesmen still calling on the state government to evacuation the Dar El Naila tribe from the area to Kadugli town.

Meanwhile, a citizen in Dilling Locality confirmed the security situation is still calm and stable. He also commended the role played by the government to contain the security situation.
