A national government delegation from Khartoum, Sudan has reportedly arrived in East Darfur’s Abu Karinka to mediate between the feuding Ma’alia and Rizeigat tribes following deadly clashes that left dozens dead from the two sides recently.

The Ma’alia tribe reportedly presented a petition to the United Nations to provide them with protection after the government apparently failed to stop the clashes.

For his part, Al Sida Ahmed, omda of the Ma’alia tribe, confirmed the arrival of the government delegation in the area, but questioned the ability of the government to restore peace between them and the Rizeigat tribe. The tribal leader accused the government of failing to stop the fight.

He pointed out that any dispute over land is a responsibility of the government.  “So the government is responsible for what had happened like the killings and displacement as well as abduction of people,” he said.

Meanwhile, deputy nazir of the Rizeigat tribe Mamud Musa Madibo told Radio Tamazuj that they didn’t have any information about the government delegation seeking to resolve the recent tribal clashes in Abu Karinka area.
