Sudan govt, rebels clash south of Damazin

The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Sudan People’s Liberation Army-North rebels reportedly fought Sunday at Dokhanat area sourth of Damazin in Sudan’s Blue Nile State.

Multiple sources told Radio Tamazuj the fighting started since last week and continued until over the weekend.

Other sources said at least 20 wounded government soldiers were flown by helicopters to Damazin Military Hospital for treatment.

“Yes, there were clashes going on in Dokhanat since yesterday evening, the clashes are continuing until this morning. The wounded soldiers and the soldiers who were killed have been brought by two helicopters to the hospital,” one of the sources said.

Radio Tamazuj couldn’t reach officials from the two warring parties to comment on the claims.

Correction: This article originally stated that the clashes occured in the south of Damazin town, rather than south of Damazin. That has been corrected.
