Sudanese citizens have called on the government to revise its economic policy following the lifting of American sanctions last Friday.

The United States of America on Friday ended its 20-year-old economic sanctions against Sudan, citing improvements in human rights record and counter-terrorism.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj from Khartoum, some Sudanese citizens called on the government to revise their economic policies to create conducive environment investment.

“The economy will improve but the dollar rate will come down and that will affect the businesses. The solution will be increasing agricultural productivity.  The effect will be direct because that will encourage investors to enter into agreements with the government to invest in Sudan and the country will benefit further,” said one of the citizens.

“This requires clear agreement from Sudan, because with the lifting of economic sanctions, Sudan will be engaged in rampant corruption and that will not be helpful in the current situation because the country has been in sanctions for more than 20 years and the economy is bad,” said another citizen.
