Sudan’s government and the rebel umbrella Sudanese Revolutionary Front (SRF) signed a political accord on Monday, paving the way for the launch of negotiations.
The roadmap for peace talks aimed at ending conflicts in Darfur, Blue Nile and South Kordofan areas was signed in the presence of South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir.
The parties also signed another agreement on the cessation of hostilities for humanitarian purposes.

“I want to assure you that we are serious and determined to ensure that peace prevails in Sudan,” he said.
The Sudanese rebel leader pointed out that the two documents signed by both sides will guide the peace process.
Lt. Gen. Mohamed Hamdan ‘Hemeti’, Deputy Chairman of the Sudan Sovereign Council, and the head of the Sudanese delegation to the ongoing peace talks, reiterated the government’s commitment to make peace.
“The government is committed to bring peace to the people of Sudan. Peace will open a new path for the country, so I appeal to the international community to support the peace process," Dagalo said.
