Sudan’s government has officially declared cholera outbreak across the country, where more than 200 people died.

Health officials were reluctant to explain why the government waited for several weeks before going public.

Sudan’s Health Minister Bahr Idris Abu Garda told journalists in Khartoum on Sunday that watery diarrhea cases been confirmed in different parts of the country, but some people give it different names.

He pointed out that that they have informed the World Health Organization about the outbreak, saying they also need to be supported to control the situation.

Last week, several newspapers were confiscated by security agents for reporting on the outbreak of cholera across the country.
