Four suspected members of the ISIS group have been killed in a gun battle with security forces in the capital Khartoum, Sudan’s General Intelligence Service said.
The incident, that took place on Monday afternoon in the southern district of Jabra, also left one military officer dead, SUNA news agency reported citing a statement from the intelligence service.
Three soldiers were also injured, while four members of the “terrorist cell” were arrested, the news agency added.
“The terrorist group fired heavy shots at our forces,” SUNA reported, adding that assault rifles, rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs) and grenades were used.
The violence comes less than a week after militants killed five security officers in a shoot-out in the same district.
Eleven suspects of different nationalities were also arrested during that raid.
In June, security forces announced the arrest of nine al-Qaeda members who were plotting attacks in the country.
Sudan shares a desert border with Libya through which militants cross in both directions.
Eastern Libya is home to extremist groups. Sudan's border with Egypt, where ISIS militants have for years been battling security forces in the Sinai Peninsula, is heavily policed by the Egyptians.
Another group of ISIL fighters is active in Yemen, across the Red Sea from Sudan.
