Sudan: Follow-up peace forum anticipated for East Darfur tribes

Authorities in Sudan’s East Darfur State announced that a final reconciliation conference between the Arab nomadic tribes the Rizeigat and Ma’alia will be convened on 30 May in El Fula town in neighboring West Kordofan.

In a press statement, the East Darfur State Deputy Governor Ahmed Kibir stated Misseriya tribal leaders have been able to mediate between the two other tribes in order to end their feud, saying the mediators set 30 May as the deadline for the final peace conference between the two tribes.

He noted social relations between the two tribes have been constantly improving since the signing of a recent truce.

For his part, Mohamed Issa Aleu, an omda of the Rizeigat native administration, requested the state government to protect the truce by ensuring the two parties adhere to the terms of the reconciliation agreement.

He indicated the fighting between the Rizeigat and Ma’alia tribes in the past was instigated by irresponsible behaviour by some individuals.

The tribal leader commended the Misseriya tribe’s efforts in mediating the conflict and finding out the root causes of the conflict between the two tribes.
