Sudan expels South Sudan rebel official from its territory

A South Sudanese rebel official has been deported to a neighbouring country by Sudanese security personnel on Tuesday.

Omar Ishag Mohammed, a rebel official loyal to South Sudan’s former military chief Paul Malong, confirmed to Radio Tamazuj that was taken to a neighbouring country after he became an "inadmissible person" in Khartoum.

Ishag said he was deported from the Sudanese capital Khartoum on Tuesday. The South Sudanese rebel official further said Sudanese security agents detained him for nine days before his deportation.

“I was warned against engaging in political activities in the Sudanese territory. National Security officers in Khartoum did not tell me the reasons,” he said.

The rebel South Sudan United Front (SSUF) led by Paul Malong was formed in April to challenge President Salva Kiir. The rebel group is not part of the revitalized peace deal signed by South Sudan President Salva Kiir and several opposition groups in September.

The new deal was mediated by Sudan.
