Sudan election official ‘doesn’t care’ about foreigners’ objections to vote

Sudan’s National Elections Commission (NEC) announced that arrangements for the April elections are continuing on schedule despite objection from the British Foreign Ministry.

Sudan’s National Elections Commission (NEC) announced that arrangements for the April elections are continuing on schedule despite objection from the British Foreign Ministry.

The British Foreign Ministry recently issued a statement in which it criticized the election plan while the country is witnessing insecurity and restriction of freedoms.

El Hadi Mohamed Ahmed, head of the NEC’s polling control department, told Radio Tamazuj yesterday that they do not care about comments from any diplomatic mission opposing the April elections.

He said the arrangements are continuing on schedule for next month’s polling.

When asked about the conflict-affected states, Ahmed said that all states will be covered by the election, except some geographical constituencies in South Kordofan.

El Hadi, who is also the spokesman of the election commission declined to mention the geographical constituencies that have been left out due to security reasons.

He pointed out that the elections will be monitored by indigenous organizations and Arab League as well as delegates from China and Spain.
