The chairman of the Sudanese Congress Party (SCP) Ibrahim al Sheikh has been transferred from El Fula Prison in West Kordofan to El Obeid Prison in North Kordofan state, where he will be tried, a party official said.
On Sunday, the defense team of the SCP leader announced that the case against Ibrahim El Sheikh was rejected by the court of El Fula.
The court of El Fula town has recently issued a decision transferring al Sheik to El Obeid Prison, the party’s spokesman Abu Baker Yusuf told Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday.
Abu Baker also predicted that his boss may appear before a court soon in North Kordofan. He further said El Fula Court was not be competent, describing the legal procedures that had been followed on the case in El Fula as “politicized.”
This referral comes following a decision by the Chief Justice on Tuesday directing the authorities concerned to hold the trial of the detained leader in El Obeid town.
The SCP chairman was detained on 8 June by security forces in his hometown En Nahud in West Kordofan, on charges of “undermining the constitution” after he had publicly denounced the widespread attacks by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, under the command of the NISS, on civilians in Darfur and Kordofan states.
