Sudanese doctors on Tuesday announced a fresh nationwide strike until the end of November, accusing the government of failing to fulfil its promises.
In early October, the Federal Committee of Doctors staged strikes over low wages, deteriorating services at government hospitals and a rise in assaults on doctors by security agents and relatives of patients.
Dr. Hani al Hajj, a member of the federal committee of doctors, told Radio Tamazuj yesterday that they will continue with their strike until their demands are fulfilled, saying the strike was planned to be for two days per week until the end of November.
He accused the government of being reluctant to meet their demands.al-Hajj claimed that security operatives continue to arrest and summon his colleagues.
“Today, two of our colleagues were arrested, and two days ago, Dr. Israa and Dr. Mujahid were arrested too, so this will exacerbate the situation,” said Hani.
The committee announced that the strike will affect government hospitals only.
