The Sudan Ministry of Foreign Affairs denies it agreed on joint military protection of the oilfields of South Sudan’s oilfields with the South Sudan army. According to the state agency, Sudan Media Centre, Khartoum only offered to send 900 technicians.
On his return to Khartoum on Monday, Sudan’s minister of Foreign Affairs stated that President Salva Kiir of South Sudan requested from President Omar Al Bashir of Sudan to jointly protect the oilfields in Unity State and Upper Nile State.
The press agency explained that the 900 technicians eventually will work under the supervision of the South Sudanese Ministry of Petroleum.
