Sudan court hears security agent against opposition leaders

A  Khartoum criminal court has resumed hearing of prosecution witnesses on Monday in the trial of opposition leaders Farouq Abu Issa and human rights activist Amin Mekki Madeni.

A  Khartoum criminal court has resumed hearing of prosecution witnesses on Monday in the trial of opposition leaders Farouq Abu Issa and human rights activist Amin Mekki Madeni.

Abu Issa, 82, and Madeni, 76, signed the “Sudan Appeal” document in Addis Ababa and consequently were accused of instigating violence and undermining the country’s constitution.

A source told Radio Tamazuj that the sitting, presided over by Judge Motasim Sir El Khatim, heard one of the prosecution witnesses from the National Security Service for several hours.

The court also determined 17 prosecution witnesses who will be heard during the trial.

The senior lawyer Nabil Adib reportedly defended the two opposition leaders. The presiding judge adjourned the sitting to next Monday.
