The head of the opposition Sudanese Congress Party Ibraham al-Sheikh told Radio Tamazuj they haven’t received any invitation from the AU mediation on the upcoming National Dialogue preparatory meeting in Addis Ababa.
The meeting is meant to be held between the Sudanese government, 7+7 committee, opposition parties, and armed movements in Addis Ababa.
“Up to now there is no any invitation, it is just a talk from the government and other bodies, but I can confirm that the AU High Implementation Panel has not yet extended any invitation to any party” al-Sheikh said.
Al-Sheikh, who is also a member of the opposition alliance, reiterated their commitment to the preparatory conference according to the AU Peace and Security Council resolution number 539.
Al-Sheikh also reiterated their commitment to the charter of the “Sudan Appeal.”
“According to the document, any party shouldn’t engage in a separate dialogue with the government, so all us are committed to this,” he stressed.
He added that the National Consensus Forces is still waiting for the invitation from the African Union to decide whether to participate in the preparatory dialogue or not.
Sudan’s government previously announced that it agreed with the AU mediators on meetings with the armed movements and National Umma Party (NUP) in Addis Ababa early next month.
Separately, Mohammed Tawakul, an expert on affairs in the Horn of African, told Radio Tamazuj from Addis Ababa that the upcoming meetings between the 7 +7 committee, armed movements, and National Umma Party will try will to persuade the government to accept the preparatory conference.
