The Sudanese Communist Party has urged the government to reverse death sentences that were imposed in absentia on SPLA-N leaders Malik Agar and Yasser Seed Arman, in order to help create a conducive environment for an inclusive national political dialogue.
SPLA-N leader Malik Agar and Secretary-general Yassir Arman along with other suspects faced charges in absentia under articles 21, 25, 50, 51,186, and 187 of the Sudanese Penal Code as well as articles 5 and 6 of Anti-terrorism Law and article 26 of Ammunition Law 1986.
In a statement obtained by Radio Tamazuj yesterday, the communist party reiterated its position that they will not participate in the dialogue unless political prisoners and prisoners associated with armed movements are released.
The party further requested from the government bring about peace in Darfur, South Kordofan and Blue Nile to show its seriousness about the national political talks.
In a related development, it is reported that the health of one of the SPLA-N detainees who were transferred from Blue Nile to Huda Prison in Khartoum is significantly deteriorating.
Mohamed Khair was supposed to undergo a surgical operation, but the administration of the prison allegedly denied him access to medical care, according inmates.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday, several prisoners complained about poor health conditions within the prison.
“If Mohamed is not allowed to seek medical care as soon as possible, his health condition could deteriorate further,” one prisoner said.
