The Sudanese Child Protection Society on Tuesday protested outside the National Ministry of Justice Tuesday demanding sexual abusers of children be executed in public.
Osman Al Agib, Chairman of the Child Protection Society, told Radio Tamazuj that the protests were organized in solidarity with the children after a court upheld a death sentence against one of the perpetrators.
He pointed out that executing such criminals inside prisons will not have a great impact compared to doing so in public.
The child rights advocate added that sexual assaults against children are on the rise with courts receiving 6-8 cases of child abuse per day. He noted a recent incident when a child was abused and then killed inside their home.
A report compiled by Sudan’s National Council for Child Welfare showed that 12,300 cases of sexual assaults against children took place in 2014. The majority of these incidents were committed by teachers and sheikhs in schools, including Quranic schools, the report said.
