A running feud between two Misseriya Arab clans in Sudan’s West Kordofan state is due in part to a lack of resources, a local chief said.

In an interview, Nazir Gabriel al-Guni, a local chief from the Missiriya tribe blamed fighting between the Awlad Omran and al-Zeyut clans on a lack of resources in the area, saying their rivalry has worsened since the separation of South Sudan, which prevented cattle from crossing to the South.

He said that lack of pasture is the main reason for the fighting between Awlad Omran and al-Zeyut clans and among other Missiriya clans.

Separately, al-Guni noted that a peace conference that was due to take place in ad-Daien town between the two feuding clans has been postponed several times, but he noted tha consultations are ongoing ahead of the planned event.

The local chief said the two parties have worked out most of the issues, but did not disclose which issues they have agreed on.
