The Sudan Central Doctors Committee has urged the warring Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and Sudan Rapid Forces (RSF) to respect international laws and treaties and allow people who have been injured during Saturday’s fighting access to medical facilities.
Residents of Khartoum and Merowe on Saturday morning woke up to the sounds of gunfire which created panic and fear as the SAF and RSF clashed.
“These incidents (fighting) took place in residential neighborhoods and led to varying injuries and serious cases among citizens. Injuries are still arriving in various hospitals,” the statement said. “In these complex circumstances, we appeal to the forces of both parties to exercise the utmost wisdom and restraint to preserve the security and safety of the homeland.”
“We also demand the need to implement the protocols of the World Health Organization and the Red Cross and others in protecting medical personnel, civilians, and the injured inside and outside hospitals, and we also appeal to citizens to be in their places and not in the areas of clashes,” the doctors’ statement added.
The Sudan Central Doctors Committee also appealed to all doctors to go to the nearest hospital to their residence to help treat the injured, especially in the south of Khartoum and in the Bahri area.
