Sudan’s UN mission has called on the UN Secretary General and the UN Security Council to condemn what it termed as “insidious attacks” carried out by the rebel groups in South Kordofan state in an attempt to disrupt the elections and deprive citizens from exercising their constitutional rights.
Ambassador Hassan Hamid Hassan, Charge d’Affaires of Sudan’s UN mission, told the Sudanese News Agency (SUNA) that such attacks against innocent civilians should be condemned in the strongest terms.
Meanwhile, the Sudanese diplomatic mission to the United Nations circulated on Wednesday a press statement on the attacks by the rebels in South Kordofan State.
“The attacks and bombardments carried out by the so-called SPLM-North in Kadugli town in South Kordofan and other areas in state, resulted in the killing of over 149 civilians including over 50 children,” reads the statement.
“Majority of the victims were women, besides the wounding of over 200 civilians and displacement of nearly 17,000 people from their homes.”
“Before the attacks, Abdul Aziz Al Hilu and Izzat Kuku, held a meeting with some of their forces and directed them to attack secure towns and villages to obstruct the electoral process,” added the statement.
SPLA-North spokesman Arnu Ngutulu Lodi recently denied claims that they targeted civilians in South Kordofan.
