Medical charity Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) said Tuesday that Sudan’s air force bombed their hospital in Farandalla, South Kordofan state during an air raid on Monday that injuried six people.
MSF said in a press release that two bombs hit the hospital, injuring one MSF staff member. Five other people were injured in the village during the attack.
“We are shocked that a medical facility can be bombed, especially since it was clearly identified with a flag and a cross on the roof,” said MSF Head of Mission Brian Moller. “We also had previously communicated the hospital’s position to the authorities in Khartoum.”
The press release said that MSF treated and evacuated the wounded.
“The bombs in Farandalla destroyed the emergency room, a dressing room, the pharmacy, and the hospital kitchen,” the press release said.
Moller said MSF would continue working in Farandalla.
In May, Sudan bombed the Mother of Mercy hospital in Gidel village, South Kordofan.
MSF said the hospital has been in Farandalla since 2012 and has admitted nearly 2,300 patients in that time.
