Public servants in Babanusa Locality in Sudan’s West Kordofan State have been on strike for five days as of yesterday in solidarity with teachers who are demanding unpaid April salaries.

Several workers told Radio Tamazuj that they were informed that the salaries were not enough for all the employees, while the local authorities failed to generate money from local revenues to pay the salaries for its employees.

A teacher who preferred anonymity said the teachers were also showing solidarity with the striking employees over lack of salaries.

Separately, doctors in training in Kosti Hospital in White Nile State yesterday called off a strike that started since last Thursday morning over lack of medical equipment and the facility’s poor working environment.

The protesting doctors previously said they suspended medical services except for emergency cases to improve health services to citizens, and that the action comes after unsuccessful meetings with the hospital’s administration.

But several doctors confirmed yesterday that they called off the strike for humanitarian reasons, saying their committee met the hospital’s administration on Thursday. They pointed out that the administration had granted some of the demands. However, the doctors stressed that strike will eventually resume until all their demands are fulfilled.
