Authorities in Lagawa Locality of Sudan’s West Kordofan state are trying to disperse through peaceful means a sit-in strike that entered its third week now.
According to activists protesting at the Freedom Square, the local authorities have tried persuade them to call off the strike but have failed.
On 12 November, activists in Lagawa Locality began a strike demanding for better basic services before elections take place in April 2015.
They said the government dispatched a committee to the area and that it promised to implement some development projects as soon as possible. The committee reportedly showed contracts of projects to be implemented, but the protesters dismissed the contracts as fake.
The activists called for continuation of the protests.
