Sudan army planning to retake Abu Karshola

The Sudanese government is building up military forces around Abu Karshola in preparation to retake the area, which was captured by the Sudan Revolutionary Front more than a week ago.

Clashes in the areas of Um Rawaba and Abu Karshola among other led to the displacement of thousands of citizens to El Rahad town in North Kordofan.

As reported in Akhir Lahza newspaper in Khartoum on Sunday, the government has announced its plans to recover the region, which lies in northern South Kordofan on the road toward Um Rawaba.

For its part, the Sudan Revolutionary Front issued a warning statement against the government’s talk of imminently retaking Abu Karshola. The rebels said this reflects the government’s intention to commit genocide in the region through pounding the area with heavy artillery and Antonovs.

Meanwhile, sources from El Rahad town stated that numbers of the displaced people from Abu Karshola continues to increase, with their number reportedly exceeding 27,000.

“The health conditions of the displaced people are very poor in the light of the insistence of the Sudanese government not to allow humanitarian organizations to enter the area and relieve the war-affected citizens,” pointed out a local source who preferred anonymity.
