Sudan’s army clashed with rebel forces in the Nuba Mountains on Monday as warfare in the region and in neighbouring South Sudan continued to push up commodities prices.

Arno Ngutulu Lodi, spokesman of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army North (SPLA-N), says their forces repelled an attack by the Sudanese army on Monday.

In a press statement to Radio Tamazuj, Lodi stated that their forces in Angarto village in Talodi Locality and Mandi village in Heiban Locality were attacked.

He claimed they beat back the offensive and government forces retreated to Talodi and Umm Dwal Localities.

Sudanese army spokesman Al Sawarmi Saad could not be reached for comment on the reported clashes.

Elsewhere in South Kordofan in Dilling Locality, soaring crop prices are reported this harvest season. Several local sources attributed the change to poor productivity during this season due to little rains this year.

Citizens also expressed their discontent about the shortage of fuel and agricultural produce. “A sack of sorghum reached SDG 200, and the sack of sesame has risen to SDG 1,000,” a local resident explained.
