The Sudan Armed Force (SAF) said on Sunday it had completed the redeployment of its forces outside the safe demilitarized border area with South Sudan, and has reported this to the African Union High Implementation Panel (AUHIP) last Saturday.
According to a statement issued by the Sudanese army spokesman Brig. General Ahmad Khalifa Al-Shami on Sunday, extended to Radio Tamazuj, the redeployment of forces comes as part of the implementation of the resolutions of the joint security political committee between Sudan and South Sudan.
Al Shami said that the decision shows Khartoum’s willingness to develop ties with South Sudan and maintain it to a new level of more security and military cooperation between the two countries.
The demilitarized area is expected to be 2100 kilometer in length and 12 miles deep with the withdrawal of each side 6 miles north and south of the 1/1/1956 boundaries.
