Sudan and South Sudan to increase troops at border

The governments of Sudan and South Sudan have drafted a security plan to deploy large numbers of troops to the border shared by East and Central Darfur and Bahr al Ghazal.

The deputy governor of South Darfur Musa Abdul Karim said the plan involves drafting armed forces to the border and doubling patrols and checkpoints to control the movement of militants belonging to Darfuri or South Sudanese rebel groups.

Karim said the proposal is also intended to protect nomadic groups who he said have recently been subjected to 'fierce' attacks in the border areas.

He added that all armed forces are currently in a state of alert since serious fighting broke out in South Kordofan.
