Sudan and South Sudan sign petroleum and security agreements

South Sudan’s government says it has reached an agreement with the Sudanese government over security, border issues, and transitional financial arrangements.

The agreements came during a visit by First Vice President Taban Deng.

South Sudan’s Minister of Petroleum, Ezekiel Lul, said there was a technical meeting to discuss cooperation and increasing oil production in Upper Nile and Unity State.

The Sudanese government agreed to grant technical assistance to oil production from South Sudan through Port Sudan, authorities in Juba said.

Minister of Defense Kuol Minyang Juk told reporters that there were security agreements between the two countries, and there was a possibility to open borders and stop supporting rebel groups from each country.
