Sudan’s opposition parties sign new declaration in Addis Ababa (Radio Tamazuj, 5 December 2014) — Sudanese political and armed opposition forces on Wednesday signed what they called the “Sudan Appeal” in Addis Ababa to put an end to the ongoing conflict.
AUHIP suspends Darfur peace talks indefinitely (Radio Tamazuj, 4 December 2014) — The AU High-Level Implementation Level (AUHIP) in Addis Ababa announced on Thursday morning that the peace talks between the Sudanese government and two main Darfur rebel groups have been postponed for an indefinite period.
Kiir appoints new co-chair to Abyei Committee (Radio Tamazuj, 4 December 2014) — South Sudanese President Salva Kiir has issued an executive order appointing Deng Mading Mijak as head of the Abyei Joint Oversight Committee, a mechanism by which Sudan and South Sudan are meant to negotiate over the disputed area.
Another Lakes State politician joins SPLM-IO (Radio Tamazuj, 3 December 2014) — Sudan’s former state minister of health has joined the South Sudanese opposition faction SPLM-IO. The ex-official hails from Lakes State, which is controlled by the SPLM-Juba faction but has witnessed high levels of violence this year.
Dinka elder says peace proposal sets ‘bad precedent’ (Radio Tamazuj, 1 December 2014) — Bona Bang Dhel, a supporter of General Salva Kiir and one of several Dinka elders who met with the SPLA-Juba top commander over the weekend, says that the proposed power-sharing deal would set a bad precedent in South Sudan.
