Sudan’s National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS) obstructed a protest of tens of activists and families of detainees in a main street in Khartoum on Monday, and arrested three activists.
The arrested protesters were taken into a Toyota truck and brought to an unknown location, eyewitnesses told Sudan Tribune. The NISS released one of the detainees later that day while others are still detained.
Reportedly the detainees belonged to a group known as the Committee of Solidarity with Victims of the September Demonstrations. The group held a news conference following the obstruction of their protest.
“I am concerned about the pace of the country’s human rights violations, including arrests, summons of journalists, and shutting down newspapers,” said Siddig Yousif.
Three days before, hundreds of people protested in Dongola in northern Sudan, demanding the release of El Sadiq El Mahdi, the head of the National Umma Party.
