Sudan accuses ‘elements’ of SPLA, Israel of supporting SRF in S. Kordofan

Sudan’s presidential advisor and the chairman of the National Congress Party, Nafie Ali Nafie, has claimed that military elements from South Sudan are currently backing the Sudan Revolutionary Front (SRF) rebels in South Kordofan State using support from Israel.

Nafie described the group as people who are tirelessly working to obstruct the recent cooperation agreements signed between the Juba and Khartoum governments in Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.

Nafie in an exclusive interview with Al-Ashrooq TV on Saturday assured viewers that there are leaders in South Sudan’s government making an effort to push forward and implement agreements Khartoum.  However he also claimed that there are armed elements along the border as well as an element within Juba’s military institution who are instigating foreign powers in an effort to weaken relations between the two countries by supporting Sudanese rebels.

He added that there are opposition groups in Sudan who are dissatisfied with the agreements signed with South Sudan because of alleged support to SRF during the fighting in Umm-Ruwaba and Abu-Karshola.

He noted that the recent attack by SRF rebels in South Kordofan State revealed ‘racist ideology’ and made further claims ofsupport by foreign powers, including Israel, which itclaims is doing so through elements within the South Sudanese army.

Meanwhile, a reliable source has claimed that a military tribunal was formed to look into the case of El-Obeid garrison officers who reportedly violated military orders to retake the area of Abu-Karchola from SRF fighters.  However, Radio Tamazuj was unable to reach Sudanese government sources for comment.

Both governments announced in March that they were not supporting proxy rebel groups on the opposite side of the border.
