Sudan: 12 doctors in White Nile resign

12 doctors in Rabak Hospital in White Nile, Sudan resigned in protest of lack of medical staff and equipment and the facility's poor working environment.

The protesting doctors said the mass resignation was an indication of their keenness to provide good health services to citizens, El Yom El Tali newspaper reported.

The doctors said they have complained to the health ministry but have received no adequate response.

White Nile Ministry of Health denied the mass resignation took place.

Rabak Hospital’s Director General Dr. Abu Hureira Adul Rahman told the Sudanese Press Centre that the claims were unfounded.

In a press statement yesterday, the ministry said it only received a letter from the hospital’s management in which it requested police protection following a quarrel at the hospital between a doctor and citizens accompanying a patient.

"The issue was that a citizen accompanying his relative who is sick patient assaulted a doctor at the hospital as a result other doctors intervened in order to protect their colleague. Shortly afterward, police personnel were called to protect the facility," he said.

Abdul Rahman said they reject misconduct and any inconvenience caused to patients admitted in the hospital. He added that the Ministry of Health has already provided medical supplies and improved the working environment for medical staff.
