At least eight hundred students from the New Junior Academy, a private primary and secondary school in Aweil, have been temporary relocated to St. George Kuac secondary and Santo Ayeng primary schools. The New Junior Academy was recently burned down by students who protested the school’s lack of service.
Police have apprehended two students and the school director for the incident.
Aweil state senior inspector for private schools Albino Akech said the agreement to relocate students was reached after a meeting with local education authorities and the Parent Teachers Association.
“It is not good to stop their learning. Now we have divided them up with 200 senior students to join St. George Kuac secondary school and 600 primary students to go to Santo Ayeng school,” Akech said.
“This is a problem between the head master and the director of the school, but this should not stop the future of these students. They will be continuing with their learning and the court case will be continuing after the holidays,” he added.
The PTA chairperson Anjelo Atak Akol called on parents and teachers to remember students who are not able to receive the quality and affordable education.
“Eight hundred students is a big number and we don’t need them to be on the street. They need to be back to school and we thank our education authorities for having quickly responded to us” Atak said in an interview with Radio Tamazuj on Saturday
He said that as the chairman of the parents’ council he took the initiative of resettle the students as his first priority, and urged parents who have demanded a refund their money to wait.
Atak said that the council was unsure if people who requested a refund would be given their money back, because accommodations for students are being made.
