In Jonglei State’s Akobo County, a university student is in critical condition, nursing wounds inflicted by armed assailants while en route to neighboring Ethiopia for his studies.
Akobo County Commissioner Puok Nyang reported the incident to Radio Tamazuj, stating that the attack occurred on Friday in Akobo’s Pulbure area.
“The student, identified as Ruot Malith Kok, was coming from Nyirol County and was on his way to Ethiopia when he was attacked between Akobo West and Akobo East by assailants from Pibor,” Nyang explained. “Ruot Malith is being treated for four bullet wounds in Akobo, but his condition is critical.”
The commissioner condemned the attack as barbaric and called for the immediate evacuation of the wounded student for further medical attention.
Officials in the Greater Pibor Administrative Area could not immediately be reached for comment on the alleged attack.
Communities of Jonglei State and the Greater Pibor Area have for long been wrangling, leading to cattle raids, child abductions, and killings.
