Street children in Aweil to be reunited with their families

Street children in Aweil will be re-united with their families, according to the local municipal council.

The new policy was reached after the area saw a spike in crime, which many attributed to the street children.

“Every child should go back to their father, if there is no father then they should go to a place where a school can be opened and they can study in the school... if he does not have a parent and he's in the market, then he'll be in the responsibility of the government. There will be a special program,” said Diara Madut, Aweil Deputy Mayor for Town Planning and Development in an interview with Radio Tamazuj.

Last year, a child care organization operating in Aweil State said there were more than 700 homeless children in the area.

In another development from Aweil, local authorities on Thursday issued an order and warning vehicles and motor bikes owners to decrease their speed when driving in the town. The order was made in efforts to eliminate traffic related incidents.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Thursday, the Aweil Traffic Police Chief Colonel Diing Reech Diing said that the police have ordered all citizens to drive slow to avoid road accidents. He confirmed that the police personnel were deployed on roads to monitor and bring them to book those who would violate traffic orders. The who will violate the rules will be fined according to the police traffic provions.
